HAPI Mutual Fund Aid

Rooted in Indigenous Values. Powered by Collective Care.

At HAPI, we believe that care should not be a privilege—it should be a shared responsibility, rooted in the Indigenous values of reciprocity, community, and aloha.

With ongoing federal cuts to critical safety net programs, our communities can’t afford to wait. That’s why we’ve launched the HAPI Mutual Aid Fund—a grassroots effort to provide direct assistance to Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) families facing housing instability and food insecurity in Hawaiʻi.

Why This Fund?

This fund isn’t meant to fix systemic issues overnight—but it can offer a safety net for families navigating impossible choices. As public support systems are gutted, it’s up to us to take care of each other. Mutual aid is not charity—it’s solidarity.

Our initial goal is to raise $15,000, but our vision is to make this a permanent fund that families can count on in times of crisis. Every dollar helps—whether it’s $5, $10, or $25, your contribution can make a real difference.

  • 1 in 3 families in Hawaiʻi experience housing instability.

  • 43% of Native Hawaiians and 45% of other Pacific Islanders face food insecurity.

  • As the cost of living rises, more NHPI families are struggling to survive.

How It Works

  • Families fill out a short, confidential application for assistance.

  • They can request help with rent, utilities, or groceries.

  • Each household may receive up to $500.

  • Priority is given to those facing eviction, homelessness, or other high-risk circumstances.

  • We aim to support 30 households in this first round.  We  understand that asking for help isn’t easy. Many families in need won’t apply at all. That’s why we’re committed to approving every eligible application submitted, as long as funding allows.
